When you think of a college athlete, the first image that may come to mind is a student dedicated to their sport, balancing practices, games, and schoolwork. However, at the Rochester Institute of Technology, there is one student-athlete who is breaking the mold and proving that there is more to him than just hockey.
Meet Alex, a sophomore at RIT and a member of the men’s hockey team. While Alex excels on the ice, he is also passionate about anime and manga. In fact, he has created his own blog where he reviews the latest series and shares his thoughts on the industry.
“I’ve always loved anime and manga,” Alex says. “It’s a form of storytelling that is unique and captivating. I wanted to share my passion with others and create a space where fans can come together and discuss their favorite series.”
In addition to his love for anime and manga, Alex is also a film buff. He regularly attends screenings at the campus cinema club and writes reviews for the school newspaper. His knowledge of cinema extends beyond just the latest blockbusters, as he is well-versed in classic films and foreign cinema.
Alex’s diverse interests have not gone unnoticed by his teammates and coaches. They admire his dedication to his passions outside of hockey and appreciate his ability to balance his time effectively.
“I think Alex is a great example of how student-athletes can be more than just athletes,” says Coach Smith. “He brings a unique perspective to the team and adds value in ways that go beyond the rink.”
As Alex continues to pursue his passions in anime, manga, cinema, and technology, he is proving that there is more to him than just a hockey player. He is a well-rounded individual who is not afraid to follow his interests and share them with the world.
